Senior Research Engineer—Novi, MI

Reports to

General Manager—Novi, Michigan

Function

  1. Develops CAE-based HVAC thermal models and works with software development team to implement new functionality

    • Generates surface mesh on CAD geometry

    • Applies material properties and boundary conditions

    • Runs models and interprets results

  2. Writes final reports (release notes) describing finished models.

  3. Communicates with potential and established services customers regarding existing and new modeling jobs.

Creates, identifies, defines, proposes, and sells new projects

Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Environment

  • Experience completing CFD analyses with experience in automotive or other HVAC design and analysis required (5-15 yrs)

  • HVAC specification/requirement development and vehicle testing experience desired (5+ yrs)

  • Expertise in thermal sciences, particularly conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer.

  • Expertise with CAE packages (RadTherm, Fluent) and meshing tools (ANSA).

  • Written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

  • Programming skills a plus (C and Javascript)

Environment

  • Full time [40 hrs] on site position in typical office environment

  • Occasional additional time/effort to meet project deadlines

  • Lifting up to 20 pounds

  • Must be able to obtain a DOD security clearance

Software Test Lead—Calumet, MI

ThermoAnalytics is seeking an energetic, test-obsessed Software Test Lead to champion the testing effort in our growing software development team. Our team is responsible for producing the flagship CAE thermal and infrared signature modeling products RadTherm and MuSES, and for creating prototypes of future products built on our core technical strengths. ThermoAnalytics is an industry leading provider of engineering services and CAE software located in the technical hub of Michigan's scenic Upper Peninsula.

As the Software Test Lead, you will steer the test and QA activities throughout the software development life cycle and be an active member of the development team. Responsibilities include writing and performing tests of all varieties, automating and maintaining test system infrastructure, mentoring developers in agile test practices, and leading the development team's use of test practices, standards, and tools in an agile software development environment. Your enthusiastic test-obsession will infect the entire organization during close collaboration as a member of the software delivery team. You will share all of the team's responsibilities, from release and iteration planning, development, and on through demos and retrospectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 5 years experience writing and automating compiled and scripted software tests, test procedures and test plans
  • 3 years experience using agile software development and test methods
  • 3 years experience programming with C++
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Collaboration skills (communication, consensus building, listening, introspection)
  • U.S. citizenship

Ideal Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Experience across all domains of software testing (unit, GUI, integration, regression, performance, acceptance, …)
  • Experience using contemporary testing tools (xUnit, FIT/FitNesse, Squish, KD Executor, …)
  • Practical experience using Scrum
  • Experience developing, debugging and testing code in Linux, Unix and Windows environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of XP principles (user stories, pair programming, Test Driven Development, …)
  • Experience writing and debugging C-shell scripts
  • Scrum Master Certification
